We Are Having a Blood Shortage CRISIS, Seattle Tech Community Please Help!

May 13, 2020

We are having a blood shortage CRISIS. Bloodworks NW needs 10,000 donors in 10 days in order to meet the blood demand for patients.

Thinkspace in both Seattle and Redmond is set up to be a Pop Up Blood Center Donation for Bloodworks NW. This starts May 18th!

Ever since Washington State has been asked to Shelter in Place, Bloodworks NW has ceased their Mobile Blood Center Donation sites in which they collect 60% of the blood donated through these mobile sites.

Bloodworks Northwest provides 95% of the blood used throughout our region, serving 80 hospitals in the Northwest. Patients with traumatic injuries, undergoing surgeries or organ transplants, or receiving treatment for cancer and blood disorders all depend on our services, expertise, laboratories and research.  Bloodworks Northwest provides donated blood to patients in local hospitals and clinics, such as:  Overlake Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview, Seattle Children’s, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Providence-Swedish Medical Centers, Kaiser/Group Health, Virginia Mason Medical Center, and VA Puget Sound.

How can you help?
You can donate your blood and money!

Register and sign up to donate. They are not accepting drop in blood donations, each appointment needs to be scheduled because they check each person to be healthy and also they clean each area before the next donor comes in. This allows for safe social distancing and also ensures people are healthy donors too.

Can’t donate your blood? You can donate your money, even a small donation can help pay for PPE and operating costs for Bloodworks NW. Donate here! If you could fill in the section “This donation is on behalf of” and list Thinkspace that would be helpful so we can track what the Seattle Tech and Thinkspace Community is contributing!
