Why Coworking?

Hello, I’m Peter, founder of thinkspace. I used to work at the most incredible start up which truly inspired those that worked there. I was surrounded by some of the smartest and passionate people in tech. We worked extremely hard and we played hard. Ever since that experience, I’ve been on a mission to recreate that energy. That is what thinkspace is all about — to have an environment where everyone wants to be successful, shape industries, disrupt existing business models, and be a market maker.

We’ve had companies get funded by angel investors just through the random chance of who you might meet inside thinkspace. We have successful entrepreneurs who are on their 8th start up and have successfully exited from the other seven companies between $7M to over $60M. In our building we have seen companies exit for $2.9 billion, $400 million, $40 million, and $5.4 million. You can work with people that have gone from pre-revenue to over one million in revenue. These kinds of opportunities only happen when you’re working in a space that fosters collaboration.

Inside thinkspace, we’ve had PhD scientists who build neural networks for the stock market team up with social media strategists to create joint ventures for the movie industry. It is through these chance encounters where business relationships are formed and partnerships created. My team is always listening and learning about the companies inside here and making introductions between people where we recognize there could be synergy.

Surround Yourself With Like-minded People

I’ve always surrounded myself with people that are where I want to be, not where I am at. I also believe that if you’re the smartest person in the room, then you’re in the wrong room. If you’re serious about your company and looking to grow your business, it helps to work around other people that are also pushing in the same direction.

Mentors and Coaches

We understand the importance of mentors, and the best start up ecosystems have mentors that are smart and survived the life cycles of a start up. Just having that experience is no good unless that person is willing to share with others what they have experienced. It’s not about giving advice, but rather, sharing experiences. We’re working with a couple different organizations that can provide the additional mentoring and couching to help your build and create a successful company.

If you’re a non-technical person looking for a technical co-founder, there’s a chance you might find that person here. Each month, thinkspace facilitates the group Hackers and Founders Seattle, which is focused on connecting people that are looking for a co-founder.

No Silly Distractions

For me, working from home was fine for a little while, but once my wife and I had kids it became impossible. Even without kids there are so many distractions; the laundry or dishes that need to be done, the neighbors dog barking… You could always go to the nearest coffee shop, but then you have to deal with the loud grinding machines or the crazy person that talks super loud on their cell phone.
